Increased sacral uptake on a bone scan with SPECT/CT in a patient with achondroplasia: normal or abnormal?

چکیده
A 26-y-old man with achondroplasia presented with chronic lower back pain with no history of trauma. MR imaging performed 5 mo previously demonstrated a congenitally small lumbar canal causing multilevel stenosis. After intravenous administration of 814 MBq (22 mCi) of 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate, delayed anterior and posterior whole-body bone scans were performed, along with spot views of the pelvis. On review of the planar images, additional SPECT/CT imaging of the pelvis was performed to clarify the findings. Limited-field-of-view, low-dose CT imaging was performed for anatomic localization and attenuation correction of the SPECT data.

Giant enostosis of spine with increased uptake on planar and SPECT views of bone scan
An enostosis or bone island is a benign bony lesion that is almost diagnosed based on clinical and radiologic defining characteristics. One of the known diagnostic procedures in the evaluation of enostosis is bone scintigraphy. Generally, we don’t expect to see increased uptake by enostosis in the bone scan. Herein we present a 52-year-old lady who was suffering from chronic low back pain that ...
متن کاملMultiple non-malignant iodine uptake in a 131I whole body scan of a patient with papillary thyroid carcinoma: Importance of SPECT/CT
After thyroidectomy in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients, whole body radioiodine scan (WBIS) is necessary for localization of any abnormal radioiodine avid lesions. However false-positive radioiodine uptake in WBIS can be problematic. We report a 32 years old female patient with PTC. After thyroidectomy and radioiodine therapy WBIS was performed. In her post therapy WBIS, there were zo...
متن کاملStudying the specificity of bone SPECT for differentiating malignant from benign lesions in the vertebral column of the patients with a known primary malignancy [Persian]
Metastatic survey of the patients with known primary malignancies with bone scan is one of the most common studies in nuclear medicine. Unfortunately the conventional planar bone scan has a very low specificity for differentiating benign from malignant lesions especially in the spinal column. In this study, we compared the specificity of SPECT imaging and convention...
متن کاملUtility of 99mTc-Sestamibi SPECT/CT in the Early Localization of Metastatic Parathyroid Carcinoma
Parathyroid carcinoma is very rare, with only a few documented cases. Hence, metastatic lesions are infrequently documented on scintigraphic imaging. We present a case of a 63-year-old female presenting with elevated serum levels of ionized calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH) who was referred to our department for a parathyroid scan with SPECT/ CT. Parathyroid scintigraphy showed a focus of i...
متن کامل99mTc-MDP bone scan guides in the identification of mesenteric vein thrombosis
A 50-year-old man with postprandial abdominal pain, weight loss, and generalized body ache was referred to Nuclear medicine department for a whole body bone scan to look for any malignancy. Clinical examination did not reveal any specific positive findings. He underwent aTechnetium-99m Methylene Diphosphonate (99mTc-MDP) bone scan which showed no obvious bone pathology. But there was...
